Chief Financial Officer

Matt Scott joined Kern Energy as Chief Financial Officer in November 2023. In this role, he oversees the company’s accounting, reporting, and information technology functions, bringing a strategic and data-driven approach to leadership. Known for his collaborative leadership and analytical mindset, Scott plays a key role in Kern’s financial health and digital transformation.

Scott brings more than 19 years of experience in finance, accounting, and operations. He began his career in San Francisco with KPMG, LLP, where he quickly advanced to Senior Associate. He later returned to his hometown of Bakersfield, where he held various financial roles in accounting—including accounting, financial planning and analysis, and strategic planning—at several upstream oil and gas producers. Most recently, he served as Chief Financial Officer for JTI Electrical & Instrumentation, LLC, an engineering and electrical contractor in the industrial sector.

Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics with an emphasis in Accounting and a Minor in Sports Management from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He also earned a Master of Business Administration from California State University, Bakersfield, and maintains an active CPA license in the State of California.

Outside of work, he enjoys watching his children play sports, traveling with his family, and cheering on the LA Dodgers and LA Rams.
