David McCoy joined Kern Energy (Kern) in 2009 and currently serves as Senior Vice President of Operations. In this role, he oversees all refinery operations, including the Engineering and Maintenance Departments.

With over 16 years of experience at Kern, McCoy has held various leadership positions, such as Engineering Manager and Vice President of Refining, before advancing to his current role. He brings more than 30 years of industry expertise, having previously worked at Big West of California as a Project Engineer, where he delivered essential process and project engineering services.

Known for a people-focused leadership style, McCoy emphasizes developing strong teams, empowering others, and leading by example—principles influenced by the teachings of leadership expert John C. Maxwell.

McCoy earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Outside of work, he is passionate about pickleball and road biking and enjoys reading books by influential leaders, including John C. Maxwell and the late John Wooden.
